I’ll be honest: While I understand the appeal of portable monitors (especially as I type this from a Vegas bar during CES 2024), they don’t usually get me very excited. But then I saw the Asus ZenScreen Fold OLED MQ17QH and my heart started a-thumpin’.
It’s beautiful, y’all. Like gorgeous. This tiny 9.7mm, 1.17kg all-metal monitor folds out (hence the name) into a humongous 17.3-inch, 2560×1920 display that’s not only powered by a luscious OLED panel, but also supports 100% of the DCI-P3 color spectrum and comes with DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification.

Plus, the “waterdrop” hinge eliminates ugly seams in the screen while also allowing the closed display to sit wonderfully flat. The monitor includes mini-HDMI, a pair of full-function USB-C ports, and a headphone-output jack, along with a screw mount on the rear so you could attach it to a tripod or similar accessory. A Surface-like kickstand helps it stand alone next to your laptop.
That’s a lot of words to say this beast of a portable monitor absolutely oozes class and visual punch. (So much so that I’m sitting here writing about a damned portable monitor!) I hope you didn’t think this would be cheap: It’s expected to retail for around $2,000 when it launches sometime around the turn of the first and second quarters. Fear not: Asus has plenty of more affordable portable monitors as well.
