Black Friday isn’t even here yet, and there’s already a killer Thunderbolt dock deal that you should snap up.
Put simply: Amazon is selling the HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 for $89.95 (now $98), an unbelievable 72 to 74 percent off. Too good to be true? I don’t think so. In our roundup of the best Thunderbolt docks, our review of the Thunderbolt Dock G4 was close to perfect: 100W of charging, a great complement of ports, and solid, stable performance.
About the only change that we can see between the G2 (which we haven’t tested) and the G4 is that this Thunderbolt 3 docking station includes a pair of DisplayPort ports instead of HDMI. As one commenter noted on the Amazon listing: “Who uses DisplayPort?” (Gamers will raise their hands here.)
Most displays do include one DisplayPort port. If yours doesn’t, it may mean that you’ll have to buy a pair of $14.99 DisplayPort-to-HDMI cables, but that’s not too bad. Just be sure you buy 4K60-certified cables, like these, so you can get the full benefit of this docking station.
Otherwise, there’s ports aplenty: a 15W USB-C port for charging a smartphone; USB-A ports for legacy devices; the two DisplayPorts for connecting two 4K displays; heck, even a legacy VGA port, too. Just be aware that the dock supplies 100W of charging power, not 230W. Black Friday hasn’t even reached us yet, and our early Black Friday Thunderbolt deals already has a top contender.
